There were plenty of good reasons for the little Boogie woman to be in the branches of the tree rather than the earth. For one, the plants below had a habit of nabbing anything that came too close, and when you're the size of a small child, you get snagged easily. Another was that up in the sky, she felt free. Jasmine loved the open air, the feeling of flying above the world, the beauty of flight...it was all a wonderful experience for her.
In that sense, it fit her perfectly to have Hades as her familiar.
The sound of the water nearing them gave Jazz a hit of worry. Normally she didn't mind the rushing red rapids, but the last time she'd been near the river, it was to pull a certain silly Kyle out of his horrible suicide attempt. That had been a strange evening, one Jasmine would never forget. Kyle was dear to her, someone she worried over and wanted to protect...
Half-way through being lost-in-thought the plum noticed Shaehern taking his quick dodge to the side, just in time to jump in the same direction. In her line of vision was a clearing...with n incredibly strange tree in the center. A tree with bone-white leaves? Where in the world did Shaehern find such things. Something told Jazz she shouldn't jump onto any of those ivory branches, so instead, she dropped down right at Shae's side.
"What have we here?" in the dark, one could almost hear the smile in her voice, "This is your little secret? Hm?"

"White Willow," Shaehern mumbled under his breath while he stared at it. The tree did, in fact, look quite a bit like a willow tree. The clearing had a very pleasant aroma, but the fact that nothing grew there save for the one tree was more than a little foreboding. For whatever reason Shaehern did not wish to take another step inward. His smile was certainly impish as he observed from his safe distance.
"The leaves are white because it doesn't use the sun to get its nutrition. The roots of the tree aren't mobile, but the branches are. It's almost sad to think that a tree like this will eventually grow too large to support itself and it will starve." To the more modern humans white was perceived as the color of light--it was a good color. Black was the color of darkness, and therefore black opposed white. A more nature-minded individual saw black as the color of healthy, life-giving soil. White was a color associated with bones and death.
"The sweet aroma beckons creatures forth so that it may drag them into its maw. The land here is stripped because it devours nearby vegetation before the winter comes. It's such a delightful and odd creature, but approaching it is dangerous." Shaehern had, in fact, safely approached it once. The tree had just eaten, but he had learned from observations that even that was no guarantee of safety.
"Perhaps you have seen it before, but this is my little secret to you." Shaehern always thought it was something beautiful, even if it was secretly a nefarious little plant. Growing one for his private collection would have been simply delightful.

Tonight really did seem to be a night of mysterious wonders. First the bushes filled with beautiful stars, now to the tree as white as bones. Jasmine watched the strange willow with bright, curious eyes, glancing up at Hades every so often where he sat in the limbs of a taller tree over-looking this other odd plant. What was with these two? A giant glowing blue phoenix was sitting right over them...and they were more interested in a dumb tree.
What a pair of idiots.
"Mm...even if it's dangerous, it's still a treasure, right?"
Jazz closed her eyes, focusing on the air. The very aura around the tree was seeped in 'do no approach'...but she liked it nonetheless. "You know, one of my own little pleasures is feeding that man-eating oak in the gardens..." the little woman mused. Opening her eyes again, she looked up to Shaehern with the sweetest of smiles, eyes glowing softer than before. It made her look even younger than she already looked, if that was possible.
"Thank you for introducing it to me."
Idiots they might be, misfits too, but they were definitely a pair.

A small secret that was meant to impress. Shaehern glanced over at Jasmine Krisp and saw that it had its intended effect. Of course, she mentioned the man-eating oak tree and that earned a chuckle. It had been the first thing he thought of when he encountered this tree.
"I remember that tree. I used to try and placate it with offerings of kites." As he recalled, that plan hadn't worked very well, but it had been amusing... to him at least. The children whose kites had been used as the offerings didn't seem nearly so keen on it, nor what they got back from the experiment.
"Such beauty betrayed by a dangerous nature." Dangerous as it was, Shaehern still couldn't help but feel sorry for the tree. Since finding it he had started to look for others, but he had no luck so far. It had a very solitary existence.
He took one last healthy breath of the air--he couldn't quite place the aroma, but it was somewhere between roses and water lilies today--and turned away.
"I think it's time to go. If we stay here much longer I might not want to leave." But where to next? The bar almost seemed like a tragic end to a night this good. Perhaps he would just curl up in his bed and enjoy a sound sleep. "Thank you for the fantastic evening. We should do this again sometime soon." Slowly and without another word he wandered away.
