The attack had given Elric something he had been lacking for the past few days. Focus. His thoughts had been left to wander, but in that hallways with blood and body he had found something at which to direct his thoughts. There was no safety for Piper and no justice for the departed.
Would Iugo come back for her after he found out she was still alive? It seemed worrisome, especially since Elric didn't think he could really do much good against the Boogie even if he did stay with Piper. Leaving her alone seemed cruel. Naelona really didn't care about Piper's fate anymore, and that was because she was unable to mislead the woman he called master. After this moment, it was far too much to assume that Iugo would just turn out to be a kind and generous master. Maybe the other Boogies that tried staking a claim on her would help, but Elric was doubtful.
He squeezed her gently. Eventually he would have to leave her alone here. There wasn't really anyone else left that he could share this with. "I'll figure out some way to help you," he muttered.
He never could really understand how hugging her like this would be okay, but he didn't question it. After all, that's what she wanted, right? To be treated like a normal person who didn't have any issues. Ignoring the problem seemed counter-intuitive, but perhaps it wasn't really ignoring the problem so much as moving on. Small steps towards normality, whatever that meant. It seemed pretty subjective, especially in a place like Wonderland.
