Does his body rest here? Shall I really never see him again? The young woman’s thoughts were tainted by sadness on this eerie and restless night. The sky was dark and there was a cold child in the air that seemed to come with the fast approaching season of snow that would soon be fluttering towards the ground. Her long white hair fell about her shoulders though it was kept from obscuring her face by the black silk ribbon that never seemed to be missing from her head whenever she went outside. The wind caused her hair to flutter about her as she walked through the graveyard with sad crimson eyes. Her head was bowed in thought, her mind was still in turmoil. She’d been considering the last three days, it had been three days since her nineteenth birthday and three days since she was told that her master would not be returning.
Knee high boots left prints upon the ground as she wondered, it seemed fitting that she would be wearing the favourite outfit of her master. Smart black trousers that fitted her figure perfectly, her white shirt also displayed her frame with the help of the fitted black waistcoat. Her long white coat trailed the ground as she walked, ever graceful like she’d been taught. Katherine found herself sitting under a tree, her head bowed in thought. She’d enjoyed thirteen years of stability which was now lost to her, the love she’d felt in those thirteen years seemed to be slipping away like the last warm rays of autumn. Katherine looked down at her wrist, her master had gotten her a bracelet for her eighteenth her birthday, it had previous been his daughters and she’d felt privileged to receive it. A soft sigh left her lips as she slipped her hand into her coat pocket.
As she withdrew her hand, her fingers were wrapped around a neatly wrapped little box. This was the present that her master had gotten her for her nineteenth birthday, she couldn’t bring herself to undo the neatly tied ribbon. Katherine looked at the box that rested in the palm of her hand. Did he know he was going to leave me? Why would he leave this at the bottom of the bed if he hadn’t? He always gave his presents in person... None of it made any sense to her. She put the box down as she drew her knees up to her chest as she wrapped her arms around them. This was not good for her health. Katherine closed her eyes, trying to remember the faces of the parents who’d mistreated and abused her. Nothing she couldn’t even remember their names or faces, only the smell of alcohol that clung to them constantly.
Alistair. He was the only family she’d ever really had...A single tear ran down her pale features, the first tear that had been shed since she’d arrived in Wonderland. Master, why did you leave? Katherine ran her fingers through her long white hair, her long tresses felt like silk to the touch, something her master had always insisted upon, much like her looking good. He’d taken great pride in dressing her up, had she not been nineteen years younger than his daughter she could have stepped into her shoes. She was treated the same, dressed the same and looked the same... For the first time in years she’d felt like someone’s daughter and now it was gone. She had nothing now.
For now she was un-owned, no boogie had come forward to claim her and her fate was unclear. [/blockquote] ------------------------------

Luther's world always had the stench of death clinging tightly to everything around him. The smell of death mixed with the metallic tang of blood and light rust and created a scent that most found truly sour. His own senses used to be offended by the odor, but he had grown accustomed to it.
The graveyard was not quite the same as his usual haunt outside of the Labyrinth, but often had a fresh supply of bones and bodies. Strictly speaking, he was not allowed to defile certain graves, but others were free game. The process of preservation used on bodies made them unfit for consumption, but the bones were often very useful in making tools. As a bonus working near an open pit made for easy disposal of bone scraps from carving and lunch.
Visitors to the graveyard were uncommon, but that did not stop them from showing up on the occasion. The whole sentimentality of the practice confused Luther. The soul existed; he had seen what happened to those whose souls were devoured whole. And yet, that did not explain why anyone saw fit to visit the remains of the body. The body was a shell and death was that act which most easily liberated the soul from its bondage.
From a distance he thought that the white-haired individual walking through the graveyard was a Boogie, but there wasn't something quite right with the scent. She looked like a Boogie and dressed like a Boogie, but as he approached he could tell that she smelled much unlike a Boogie. There was a shovel in the giant brute's hands as he stared at the girl's frail form. The tell-tale signs of tears dotted on her eyes.
"Human?" he grumbled in his coarse voice. Stories of Luther Gethsemane Verhulst were not told to slaves, they had enough to fear without adding one more horror story to the list. Luther could inquire further, but he could not care less. It was evening and the graveyard was decidedly closed at this hour. Luther wouldn't even bother considering if it was after curfew yet.
He flashed his teeth at her: sharp white fangs that were easily visible in the darkness of the evening. "You've got ten seconds to explain who your master is or to get a head start on escaping." He hoped that she would pick escape. Runners always made the best meals.

Her sharp eyes quickly loved when movement caught their attention, the girl knew not to run, knowing her luck she would fall down a hole. The way she rose made it look as if she were about to dance in an elegant ballet. Had Alistair been there then he would have had something to say about her being spoken to in such a way. He’d always been extremely protective of her, especially around other boogies, she suspected that this was because he didn’t want to lose his daughter’s memory. “My master is the missing Alistair and no-one else has stepped forward to claim me.” Katherine looked down, tucking a long strand of white hair behind her ear before looking back at the boogie.
Crimson eyes scanned the boogie, he wasn’t one that she remembered so she assumed that he wasn’t one of the few that her master had rather proudly introduced her to. “If more proof is needed, here is the bracelet that he gave me when I turned of age, his name and mine are upon it,” Katherine held out her wrist, allowing the silver bracelet to fall into view from its place under her jacket sleeve. She stayed where she stood, had she not been here for thirteen years and not lived the life that she had then perhaps she would have been afraid of the boogie before her ad his razor sharp looking teeth.
This was the first time since being taken from her world that she’d ever been alone with a boogie that wasn’t Alistair, he’d always been very careful not to leave her when other boogies were around. This made her wonder how his daughter had been taken from him. Katherine kept her eyes on the boogie, not knowing hat to make of him. She suspected that his teeth weren’t just for show... The white haired woman felt the ribbon that held back her hair fall free, fluttering towards the dirt covered ground.
With a sigh she leaned forward and grasp the ribbon with her delicate fingers, her crimson eyes locked upon it, how many years had she had this ribbon? “My name is Katherine,” the human leaned back against the tree, in retrospect it would have been better if she’d done this during the day, it would have been easier to see the graves in the sunlight. Katherine just wanted answers, she wanted to know the fate of the only person she considered family. [/blockquote] ------------------------------

Azure eyes danced across the girl's pale skin and watched slowly how the skin moved while she spoke. He was visualizing the way the muscles underneath worked with fierce intensity. His peculiar ears gave a slight twitch while he listened to her words. Words were both foreign and familiar to him. This one used for more words than were strictly necessary to justify her existence. Important details included the name: Alistair. Details beyond that seemed mostly irrelevant.
A missing master meant that she remained unclaimed. That would make her the perfect target of an attack. Slaves almost always disappeared if their masters did. It ended up being more paperwork for the palace. His jaw opened slightly and he pressed his tongue against one of his sharpened canines as he considered the situation.
He made no effort to read the girl's jewelry. Luther could barely be considered literate, even if he had been interested in checking the validity of her story. He pulled his tongue back to his mouth and spoke in that same harsh tone as before after her ten seconds had passed. "You really have no clue, do you?" The giant's eyes narrowed as he lifted the shovel a few feet from the ground and forced it into the cold earth at his feet.
"I didn't ask for your name." He crossed his arms as he stared at her. It looked like she was safe from being eaten for the moment. "Unclaimed slaves should report themselves to a Keeper for reassignment. You're liable to get hurt otherwise." Slaves had no rights no matter what they did, but they were somewhat protected under law if they had an overseer or a master. There would have been no legal repercussions if Luther had just slaughtered the girl on the spot.
The large monster unfolded his arms and reached out for this 'Katherine'. He wrapped his thick fingers around her arm and started to walk off. "Consider yourself lucky that I have to talk to someone." His stomach gurgled in hunger as he set off for the Palace. It was up to how fast the girl wished to move whether he would be forced to drag her or not.
