Not many humans remained in the dark halls of the hospital in the early morning. Only those that needed to watch over their patients and tend to emergencies. In some aspects these humans got off much easier than others. It was as if they had a different chore, but not many boogies came to the hospital. Why would they? Their food was tainted and ill. Iugo was no exception. He may be a doctor, but he usually only came to find a new toy or more supplies if his lab ran low. So... why was he here now?
He walked casually down the deserted hallway, eyes glancing left and right at the charts outside the doors. Colds, poisons, rashes and amputations did not interest him today. That is not to say he wasn't tempted to see how he could make each person feel worse. Iugo was busy this morning. Before the sun would rise he would find his beloved Piper and make feel that special way only he could manage.
He stopped at one door, seeing it was indeed Piper's. The chart showed him that he had done about as much damage to her frail, human form as he intended. Iugo replaced it and cracked the door open only a small amount. He had heard that this Elric character had saved her. Further investigation revealed that these two were friends, at least some of the time. There were some rumors saying that they were even more than that, but Iugo thought that was stupid.
Was he here now? The brown eyes scanned the darkened room, wanting to account for everyone and thing he could before going to visit his precious little girl.

Elric had something of a peculiar lifestyle for the past few days. Things had been somewhat distressing and disturbing and nothing seemed to be going quite right. Piper was alive and it looked like she would have the opportunity to get better if she was given the chance. It was a very big 'if', but that was all he had to go on for now.
He had not slept well the past few nights after ruining his sleep schedule with the late night on Christmas Eve. It had lifted a weight from his shoulders like no other Christmas Eve before had, but now there was something else clinging to him. It was darker and more dangerous, but in the same breath it was refreshing.
During the day and early evening he seemed to toil endlessly for Naelona. He would grab rest where he could, but he spent most of his free time visiting the hospital to make certain that Piper was still alive. He woke up early in the mornings and waited as long as he feasibly could spare before running off. In some ways he could twist what very little he knew about her predicament to suit his purpose--he could claim that he belonged there simply by right of the confusion pertaining to her current predicament. However, Elric felt that Naelona had lost whatever interest she had vested in seeing this through to its end.
For all of the moment Piper could choose to be perfectly honest and frank, she had to select that one where honesty would lead her down the most dangerous path. It many ways it was tragic and Elric suspected nothing he did could slow it down. Iugo would come and there would be nothing he could do to stop the mad bloodied doctor from finishing the task he set out to start.
Elric heaved a sigh as he looked at the window. How early was it now? As soon as the sky started to brighten he would have to leave to start his morning chores.

Piper had been confined to the small room in the hospital for several days now, she had been given strict instructions to rest and avoid activity which might strain her still painful wound. The worry was more that she might tear the stitches, she hadn't had a restful night's sleep since Iugo had stabbed her. The paranoia that he would come back to finish the job prevented her from relaxing fully...so she had been giving some sleeping tablets to help her drift off but the effects were limited. Every now and then Piper would open her eyes and notice Elric either awake and watchful or napping in the chair by the window. outside of her small room, the sleeping pills were slowly wearing off but they had still dulled her awareness.
She appreciated his concern but Piper knew that Iugo always came back to check his handy work...the young woman had crossed paths with him too many times to not notice this typical behaviour pattern...but none the less, having someone there helped her rest more at ease than if she were alone, she was up to her shoulders in covers and sleeping on her good side. One hand resting on the pillow by her head. Her breathing would catch every so often if the intake was too deep and she would briefly stir at the pain. Piper was unaware of Iugo's precense in the hospital.
As far as she knew the hospital was silent and there were no pyschopathic, boogie doctors wandering the halls in search of her room....

Ah... so he was in attendance. Elric's mind seemed many miles away, watching the window and the sun rise of another task-filled day. Who belonged this human, anyways? He knew of this man only by his friendship with Piper. Why? It was his business to know who to target if it came down to terrorizing his victims. Did whatever owner know that this slave was tending to the bedside of his human while precious morning passed by? What a wasteful creature! Iugo noted that he should make some visits to this boy's dorm to see if he could arouse some trouble for Elric.
The eyes watched Piper's groggy form, breathing and shaking when her wound ached within her. The doctor couldn't help but grin. It was always a satisfying feeling when the mad man saw his handiwork persist even when he was not there. It was moments like these that he considered dabbling in poisons to feed the humans. Watch them all squirm in their beds as they writhe in agony... That thought, as delicious as it was, reminded him that his goblin had been missing recently. It wasn't odd for Agony to take a day or two to himself, but it was reaching past his normal outings. The familiar would wish he was dead when Iugo caught him.
The torture was for another day. Now was for visiting his patient. Iugo took a few hobbling steps back. Leaning on the cane he transfer most of his weight to the dark, sturdy wood, leaving his gimp leg little to do when he reared back his leg and kicked the door open and stepping into the light of the room as it banged against the wall and threatened the close again. Limping in Iugo caught the door and smiled evilly at Piper, his eyes glancing to Elric for only a moment. "Did you miss me, sweetheart?" He cooed, hoping that she was aware enough to remember who he was and what that meant.
A bad day.

The door was forced open and Elric found that he turned his head very quickly in response to the new stimulus. The man walking through the door was one he had never chanced to meet, but everything about him and his demeanor screamed Boogie of bad business. Signs and logic would suggest that this was Dr. Iugo Nationis. Elric recalled a similar bearing from a gentleman at Naelona's table at the Ball, but it might have just been his imagination.
As soon as he opened his mouth any doubts that Elric might have previously harbored about the Boogie's identity were dispelled. This was Iugo and could be no other. Elric's eyes glanced over to Piper. He doubted she would handle this surprise visit well. It seemed that the doctor cared not for postponing his own fun, or he might have considered waiting the few minutes before morning duties would have forced Elric away from the hospital. At least, assuming that Elric did not have duties to take care of here.
The Boogie did not speak to him or address him in such a way that Elric saw opportunity to intrude without being rude, but to not say anything would allow himself to be pushed aside here. His mind started working and wrapping itself around the predicament. It was an early hour, but he had been awake for a while and yet had the lucidity to think clearly.
"The Dr. Iugo Nationis, you come too soon." These were words selected carefully for the situation and spoken as a statement of fact that was not subject to questioning. It would seem rather presumptuous for a slave to speak in such a manner, but the wording was also peculiar enough to potentially raise questions from Iugo's end. That was Elric's hope and goal.
Odd that the man who did not seem to understand social interactions was now seeking to manipulate one.
