Arien, 1500 AD.A bustling medieval town in central England. Commoners go about their daily duties, roaming the marketplace for bargains, tending to animals and crops, caring for their family. A castle looms over, a reminder that this village is ruled by the Astibois' a rich royal family. The king and queen rule well, though, and the village is happy. The king permits people into the castle to entertain, and to watch the monthly performance by a group of young actors. But no-one is allowed to talk to his daughter. The king keeps a vigilant eye on her, knowing that she is destined to marry a wonderfully rich young prince.
But Beatrix holds firm. None of the men that come to see her manage to make her think twice about them. Little does the king know, but Beatrix has a second life. When she is 'busy, do not disturb' she is actually wandering the streets of Arien, making friends, and a little bit of romance could be starting to generate between her and a young farmer.
Meanwhile, people are entering the Drohender forests, never to be seen again. Rumours are spreading around the village that a dragon is roaming the forest, eating every man in sight. But because the king never leaves the castle, he knows nothing of the disappearances. A hero from the village must prove his worth, to find and slay the dragon, or to discover what is really happening to the villagers.
How these stories entwine together is up to you..
